Situated in Gallowgate, Richmond on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Gallowgate Cottage is just a 10 minute walk from the market square. This quaint refurbished period, cosy holiday cottage which dates back to the early 1800's makes an ideal base from which to enjoy the local area.
Ideally suited to couples looking for a relaxing break or small families with older children, the cottage is well appointed and ideally located in this beautiful and historic town. There are a variety of shops, restaurants, and numerous pubs within easy walking distance from Gallowgate.

A short walk down Gallowgate and through Frenchgate takes you into the old cobbled market square. To reach the waterfalls on the River Swale is only a further five-minute walk from the market place. Richmond has two very picturesque old bridges spanning the Swale and pathways that run along side the river offering extensive scenic walks. One such route takes you out to the ruins of Easby Abbey, a monastery founded around 1152 by Roald, Constable of Richmond Castle.

Richmond Castle (now in the care of English Heritage) presides over the town 100 ft above the River Swale and is well worth a visit, it’s only a pleasant 10-minute walk from the cottage. From Castle Walk (around the perimeter of the castle) there are fabulous views across the river and the surrounding countryside. If you have the energy to climb the 100 ft high castle keep, we recommend you give it a go as the views from up here are even more spectacular!

There is a traditional bustling outdoor market held every Saturday in the old cobbled market square. Surrounding the market square is a variety of ‘olde worlde’ and modern shops where you will find fresh local produce and a variety of other goods.
A charming old fashion indoor market just off the square is also very popular with local people and visitors alike.
Whatever your requirements you will not have to venture far, a good range shops, friendly old pubs and much more are here to cater for your every need.

The cottage is equipped to a high standard, there are marble worktops, a butchers trolley and ceramic hob in the conservatory kitchen. There is full central heating fired by a combination boiler and in the living room there is glass fronted living flame gas stove which makes the cooler evenings a warm, cosy experience. The downstairs bedroom has a very comfortable and spacious king-size bed. The cottage has a secluded rear courtyard with garden table and chairs and a barbeque for the warmer evenings.
There are many welcoming pubs in the town, no more than a ten minute walk from the cottage and several of these welcome dogs as well as owners!
For all types of groceries and supplies, there is a large Coop store nearby. In the town there is an excellent butcher which sells good local produce at reasonable prices.
